The upcoming third-generation Moto G may have just been fully leaked on a Spanish retailer’s website, showing off some sexy specs including a 13-megapixel camera. However, there’s a disappointing lack of Full HD loveliness.
Online retailer Fnac just posted up its listing for the new Motorola Moto G handset, expected to launch on Tuesday July 28th. And if it’s on the money, we’re both excited and also a little disappointed.
Motorola seems to be sticking with 5-inches, which is fine by us, and although there’s no photos on the Spanish website, we’re expecting a very similar design to last year’s Moto G. That said, there’s also rumours that Motorola will introduce its Moto Maker service for the new Moto G, allowing users to personalise their handset when purchasing.
Sadly the new 2015 version of the Moto G will apparently stick with a 1080×720 pixel resolution, rather than upgrade to 1920×1080. Considering Voda’s Smart Ultra 6 managed to cram in a 1080p panel for just £125, that’s definitely a shame – although we’re still expecting sharp, colourful visuals.
We’re also underwhelmed by the 18-month-old Snapdragon 410 processor that’s apparently packed inside the new Moto G, which struggles to keep up in recent releases such as LG’s G4c. It should still handle the latest games just fine – for now, at least – but it probably won’t stand the test of time.
A 13-megapixel camera with dual LED flash sits on the rear, with a 5-megapixel snapper up front for selfie shots. We’re hoping that Motorola can improve again on last year’s optics, which was already solid enough to take decent shots under most conditions.
A 2470mAh battery and 8GB of storage, expandable via microSD, rounds off the specs. And of course, the Moto G 2015 has 4G support.
If the accidentally-leaked specs are truth, then the new Moto G should prove a strong contender for one of the best budget handsets of 2015, providing it keeps the price point as close to £100 as possible. However, rivals such as Voda’s excellent cut-price offerings and the LG Spirit mean it’s no longer a shoe-in for king of value.
