Motorola Atrix 2 gets an early hands-on

Just a few days ago we saw the first picture of the Motorola Atrix 2 leaked, and now This is my Next have followed up with some quality hands on time with the successor to the original Atrix.

What can you expect from the new device? You’re still looking at a dual-core 1Ghz processor, although NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 has been switched out in favour of Texas Instruments OMAP 4. Camera resolution has also been upgraded, going from 5 to 8 megapixels, and it’s also capable of shooting 1080p video, up from 720p.

Screen size has been bumped from 4.0” to 4.3”, resulting in a slightly wider and taller body, that also appears to be thinner than the original Atrix. The screen resolution remains unchanged at 960×540, but Motorola have done away with the PenTile matrix display that resulted in pixelated text on the original device. There’s also a subtle redesign, with the Atrix 2 opting for more rounded corners and curvier casing.

Finally, the device is running Android 2.3.5, with Motorola’s skin said to be lightweight and unobtrusive, a welcome change from their older devices. There wasn’t any mention of a release date, but the software is said to be stable and ready for release, so you can expect to see the Atrix 2 sooner rather than later.
