Motorola Atrix, Motorola and Orange’s dual-core beast

The Motorola Atrix, just announced by Motorola and Orange, looks to be a bit of a monster.

Coming with Mozilla Firefox 3.6 and a 1Ghz dual core processor, the Motorola Atrix should power through web pages in no time at all. 16GB of internal memory is included for picture and playlist storage – it’s nice to see Android smartphones coming with some decent memory at last.

If you want more room, there’s also the option of expanding with microSD cards (up to 32GB).

The Atrix has a 4-inch qHD (quarter High Definition) screen and two cameras, a main 5-megapixel camera with an LED flash, and a front VGA camera for video calls.

An HDMI output – the current smartphone accessory du jour – is also included for connecting to HD TVs and monitors.

The Motorola Atrix runs on Android 2.2, which is a bit of a shame as we’d have liked to have seen Gingerbread running on this bad boy. But the dual camera set up makes us live in hope for an upgrade to 2.3 at some point.

Motorola will also be ranging some accessories with the Atrix, including a laptop-sized expansion dock, which features an 11.6-inch screen, alongside a keyboard and trackpad. The laptop will also offer 8 hours of battery life. No information yet on the price of the add-ons, but we’ll keep you posted.
