Motorola has found its mojo once again if the Droid is anything to go by. This beast of a phone features a huge 3.7-inch touchscreen, a full Qwerty keypad and is one of the first devices to feature the revamped Android 2.0 (aka Eclair) software. It’s been designed to exploit many of the new software’s new features, such as turn-by-turn navigation on Google Maps — making it a real alternative to expensive sat-navs. Motorola has also made a sat nav kit with a cradle and sucker pad which you can stick to your windscreen.
Similar to the Motorola Dext, the Droid features Facebook integration, which means that when you add a Facebook account you can choose to pull all of your Facebook friends contact information. Not only does this mean that friend’s profile pictures are automatically assigned to their numbers in your address book, it also means that you can bring live feeds, text messages and emails all under one screen, rather than having to resort to a pantheon of apps and menu screens to contact people.
As if we weren’t excited enough, the Motorola Droid can also be hooked up to a docking station which turns the phone into a digital picture frame, alarm clock and media hub — allowing you to play music or watch videos. Other features include a 5-megapixel camera, 3G and Wi-Fi. Our only real gripe is that the Motorola Droid is currently only due to come out on Verizon in the US, with no mention of it reaching UK shores yet. We’ve missed Motorola and are glad that it’s back in action, but we’ll be gladder when the Droid comes out here. More info here.
