Motorola has had to retract claims that its dual-core Atrix smartphone was the world’s most powerful smartphone in the world, following complaints made to the Advertising Standards Authority in the UK.
Comparing the Atrix to Samsung’s Galaxy S2, it was argued that the Sammy smartphone had a higher specced dual-core processor, and that Motorola’s claim – both online and on TV – was misleading. (The Galaxy S2 packs a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, whilst the Atrix lies just below with a dual-core 1GHz processor.)
Motorola made an effort to say that it was the additional features found on the Atrix, like the fingerprint security and a more powerful battery that collectively make the Moto offering “the world’s most powerful smartphone.”
In technical terms, the ASA banned the ad for breaking advertising rules of substantiation, exaggeration and comparisons, and ruled that Motorola can’t claim to have the world’s most powerful phone.
