The Motorola Milestone XT720 has a 3.7-inch screen, housed in an angular body with interestingly shaped sides – in fact, it’s appropriate that those curves resemble the shape of a digital camera, given the focus Motorola has put on the shooter in this device.
Running Android 2.1, you’ve got your access to multiple customisable homescreens, and haptic feedback means you get a reassuring vibration when your commands are registered.
At first glance, we thought the back panel doubled as a slideable lens cover, and were a little disappointed to discover that, no, it’s just the battery cover. The camera has a Xenon flash and Motorola are obviously keen to shout about its 8.0-megapixel capabilities.
What do you make of the midnight blue? We reckon there may be a couple of other colour options at launch – not least a pure black.
The screen is nice and big so you’ll have no problems browsing the web and social networking – here’s Facebook as an example. The capacitive touchscreen makes swiping between screens and applications easy as pie.
Alongside the standard camera shooting button, there’s a secondary button for switching between camera modes – still shot, video and playback. The volume button is also on that side – and check out that wedge-shape; pretty unusual we think and there’s something a little bit unsettling about it. We’ll freely admit we’re symmetry freaks though.

The power button on top of the device sits next to the (rejoice!) 3.5-mm headphone jack. On the right, you can see the HDMI-out connector under a little cover.
