Motorola Moto 360 2 coming in early 2015?

We could see a successor to the Moto 360 smartwatch as early as next year, according to sources within Motorola.

Motorola has had a banner year and no device exemplifies the company’s rise back into the big leagues better than the Moto 360 smartwatch. The watch has so far been a big hit, so much so that Gleb Mishin, Lenovo’s Eastern Europe Vice President, has hinted that the company could already be planning to release a follow-up very soon.

According to Redroid, Mishin revealed during a recent Q&A what the second-generation Moto 360 would offer. We’re unsurprised to hear that the Moto 360 2 will feature a “modified design” and that it’ll be “more beautiful and more like a clock”.

Considering one of the Moto 360’s stand-out features is its round design, which is already quite clock-like, we’re intrigued to see what Motorola offers up for its next smartwatch. We’re personally hoping for a thinner, more premium finish, as the original smartwatch was a rather chunky chappy.

While the quotes are brief and vague, the idea that Motorola could be planning to capitalise on its rising stock by releasing a new and improved product within the next few months is certainly plausible.

2014 has been a huge year for wearable technology in general and smartwatches are fast gaining traction in a market which was in danger of stagnating. 2015 will surely be even bigger though, as companies begin to introduce their newer, smarter devices with a view to making them indispensable and ubiquitous. We’ll finally get a glimpse of some truly innovative tech too, such as the build-your-own Blocks.

As you might expect, Motorola has so far not confirmed or denied Mr Mishin’s comments, but we’ll bring you more details when we have them.
