Motorola Xoom 2 pics leak out

Anxious to see the release of the successor to the Motorola Xoom? You may not have to wait much longer, as Droid-Life have gotten their hands on pictures of what looks like the follow up, the Xoom 2.

The new tablet will have the same 10.1” screen size as its little brother, and be equipped with HDMI, a micro USB port, and SIM card slot. A front facing camera is also present, as is a rear camera protected by a blue housing with an “HD” marking. A bump to 1080p video, perhaps?

So far then there doesn’t appear to be too much different from the original Xoom, at least ports wise, but what’s most intriguing is the tweak to the overall design. The Xoom 2 is sporting angled corners, reminiscent of the Motorola Photon 4G, an interesting change to the typical tablet designs of either rounded or squared off corners. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that Motorola have done anything regarding the weight, a common complaint of the original Xoom. Having said that, this is still a prototype – a lot can change about a device between its inception and retail release.

No specs are known at the moment, and there’s no word of a release date either, but seeing as the original Xoom was unveiled at CES 2011, we wouldn’t rule out seeing the next version in a few months time.
