New HTC One photo shows dual camera and familiar design

HTC’s One successor looks very familiar, and apparently packs a dual-LED flash and second camera lens.

An image of HTC’s long-awaited follow up to the One, codenamed the ‘M8’, looks almost identical to the company’s current flagship, but appears to have received a serious upgrade to its camera technology. These apparent improvements include a dual-LED flash and a second, smaller camera lens up above the primary camera. Expect to see some powerful new imaging features when it launches.

A Bloomberg report from mid-January suggested that the phone would keep the all-aluminium design, but pack a bigger screen (5-inches seems the best bet) as well as a “twin-sensor camera.” Plenty of other info has already leaked too, including details of the launch and specs.

A couple of weeks ago we anticipated what the HTC One successor would look like, wondering if the phone would feature another rear fingerprint sensor, as seen on the HTC One Max. As that one didn’t exactly wow us, we’re hoping for significantly more robust system this time around, similar to the iPhone 5S’. However, the shot above doesn’t seem to include a scanner, unless the second camera isn’t a camera at all. There’s been no talk of one appearing on the front of the phone, thus our suspicision that it is in fact a secondary camera module. Perhaps HTC is re-treading the ground once walked by the HTC EVO 3D?

We’re expecting to see the HTC M8, HTC One 2, or whatever it ends up being called, at the end of March.
