BGR revealed the first details of the next-generation Kindle Fires earlier this month, and the site is back again with even more specifications. According to the publication, Amazon is looking to leapfrog over the specs of the 2013 version of the Nexus 7, providing similarly high-resolution displays but with an even more capable processor.
The site says that the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD will include Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 800 processor, a quad-core chip that Amazon is reportedly clocking at around 2Ghz. That chip includes an Adreno 330 GPU as well, surpassing the quad-core chip and Adreno 320 GPU found in the current Nexus 7. The tablet also apparently features 2GB of RAM, and options for 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of storage.
That Snapdragon 800 won’t just be used in the 7-inch model, though. BGR goes on to say that the larger 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD will also include the next-generation chip, along with the same 2GB of RAM. An 8-megapixel camera is also reportedly on board, as is a front-facing camera and optional cellular connectivity.
Amazon is reportedly targeting a September release date – one year after the announcement of the previous line of Kindle tablets – and may still be trying to target existing price points. The current 7-inch Kindle Fire HD retails for £159, while the 8.9-inch sells for £229. If Amazon does manage to achieve the same pricing, then it will probably be models with the lowest storage capacity.
