HTC’s newest flagship, nicknamed the ‘Hima’ (but likely to release as the One M9), may be available as a Windows Phone model as well as Android out the gate.
Upleaks, a rumour-ific Twitter account based in Chongqing in China, leaked what appeared to be a roadmap for HTC’s products over the coming months, and it shows two versions of the Hima, the device earmarked as the One M8’s successor, alongside the words “Windows Phone version?”, suggesting that the Taiwanese manufacturer is at the very least keen to work with Microsoft again on its new flagship.
The account clearly marked their information regarding a Windows Phone version of the Hima as “#unconfirmed” but the rumour’s certainly very plausible. After all, the company rolled out a Windows Phone 8.1 version of the One M8 back in the summer and despite a luke-warm reception the device has been fairly well received overall.
The Hima is rumoured to feature a 5-inch, 1080p HD display as well as 3GB RAM and a Snapdragon 810 SoC, which should deliver some serious power – provided Qualcomm are able to deal with the recently reported overheating issues the chip is said to suffer.
Early rumours pointed to the Hima offering a 1440×2560 5.5-inch display, but the decision to include Windows Phone would appear to scotch them, given the fact that the OS doesn’t support anything beyond 1080×1920. Either that or, as Phone Arena recently suggested, the bigger-screened version may be limited to Android.
Oh, and if you’re wondering about that ‘Hima’ nickname, it could refer to the Sanskrit word for snow, or a ruling class of the Ankole kingdom in Uganda, or maybe someone at HTC is a fan of Hima Dushanbe, a footy club from Tajikistan. Cheers, Wikipedia.
