Nokia 5230: Teen touchscreen

Those inventive Finns never get tired of cranking out pocket tech. Moments after announcing the expensive looking Booklet 3G, Nokia unveiled a relatively inexpensive touchscreen phone for people that don’t need a 10-inch screen or keyboard.

Far from being a netbook or super phone the 5230 offers a solid set of features that won’t blow any gadget fans’ minds but will most likely please teens on a budget. At the heart of the 5320’s offering is access to music services, social networks, Nokia’s Ovi store and there’s GPS too so you can navigate around town.

Music needs are met with 33 hours of music playback time and a joyous 3.5mm headphone jack. We would like to applaud Nokia for taking the addition of standard headphone jacks seriously. It really does make all the difference in the world, even on budget phones.

The Nokia 5230 will hopefully be out by the end of the year. UK pricing details are sketchy at the moment but we should have news of a definite release date and price very soon. Expect it to be free on a contract and around £100 on pay as you go, which is cheap for a touchscreen handset.
