Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, E72 and 3710 fold: Every rose has its thorn

Every rose has its thorn, they say, and Nokia’s E72 has two of them. The E72 is Nokia’s latest addition to its E-series and is the follow up to the successful E71.

Similar to its predecessor, the E72 is a BlackBerry-esque business tablet which boasts a full Qwerty, but improves on its predecessor by adding some new features. The E72 comes with a 5 megapixel camera, a 3.5mm audio jack and an optical trackpad for a more natural browsing feel.

Other welcome additions include support for a variety of instant messaging accounts such as Google Talk and Yahoo! Messenger as well as Nokia’s own Ovi and Nokia Messaging services. There’s A-GPS with integrated support for Nokia Maps, as well as noise reduction for clearer voice calls. The Nokia E72 is set to sell for around £300 before network subsidies.

Nokia has just released these details of the E72 in addition to two other forthcoming handsets aimed for release throughout the latter half of 2009. Alongside this high powered business number is the Nokia 5530, the latest in Nokia’s XpressMusic range.

Although it bears a resemblance to the successful Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, the 5530 is aimed at a more budget-conscious audience, with fewer high-end features and a smaller screen.

The 5800 packs a 2.9-inch touchscreen, comes with a 4GB memory card, and is set to retail for approximately £170 on PAYG. Access to the Nokia Music Store comes included, as does pre-installed shortcuts to Facebook and Myspace.

There’s no 3G support, meaning if you’re interested in downloading tunes and social networking on the go, you’ll have to go hunting for Wi-Fi. Luckily Nokia have signed a deal with Wi-Fi providers Boingo, which will see 5530 XpressMusic buyers able to get 3 months free access to Boingo hotspots.

Last but not least is the Nokia 3710 fold, a budget compact clamshell that hides some none-too-shabby features. There’s a 3.2 megapixel camera and a microSD card slot capable of handling cards of up to 8GB in size. The Nokia press release says that the 3710 fold features a “renewed user interface… extreme simplicity without compromising functionality”. The Nokia 3710 fold is due to go on sale for £120 unlocked.

We’ve not heard anything about network availability for any of these yet, and all prices given above are converted from European prices and based on current exchange rates. Nokia has confirmed that the XpressMusic 5530 and the E72 are both due to arrive in the autumn, with the 3710 fold hitting shops in time for Christmas.
