Nokia’s official introduction of the new Symbian Belle OS arrived alongside the unveiling of three new handsets.
Including the Nokia 700 (which we’ve seen earlier) there’s the new 701 and 600, all of which will arrive with NFC technology for instant data sharing with a tap betwen devices, and compatibility with accessories like Nokia’s new NFC speaker sets and new Bluetooth headphones which can pair with compatible phones in a touch.
The Nokia 700 (left) is the company’s most compact smartphone yet, weighing in at under 100g, with the dimensions 110 x 50.7 x 9.7mm.
Crammed inside its monoblock frame, there’s a 1GHz processor, a 3.2 inch AMOLED screen with ClearBlack technology. The 2GB of internal memory can also be expanded by microSD cards, meaning ample space for high-defintion video recorded on the five-megapixel camera with flash. Nokia also promise a potent battery to go the distance.
The Nokia 701 (centre) adopts a design not dissimlar to the Nokia C7, and specs-wise boasts an 8-megapixel camera with digital zoom and dual LED flash. Nokia say its 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen is the brightest in the world, “perfect for indoor and outdoor use.”
Finally, the Nokia 600 (right) is all about sound, with a built-in FM radio antenna and transmitter, allowing you to stream your phone music to any FM radio. It promises 60 hours of constant music playback, and a meaty internal speaker. It’s also set to arrive in shops cheaper than both the Nokia 700 and 701. (That’ll be that new naming convention in action.)
All three will arrive with the new Symbian Belle interface, which expands the number of customisable home screens up to six and size-adjustable live widgets. The best bit? Probably the addition of a pull-down menu to show notifications, like those found on Andorid phones and the forthcoming iPhone iOS update.
The Symbian Belle release date for existing Nokia Symbian phones didn’t get a mention just yet – expect to hear more on that in the near future.
