Nokia’s recent success is all due to its push into the entry-level and budget markets, with phones like the Lumia 520 helping to generate a profit of €118 million last quarter. Nokia is now bringing a followup to market, appropriately dubbed the Lumia 525.
The Finnish company’s latest phone is a slight upgrade from the current 520. Specifications for the handset include a 4-inch 800×480 display, a dual-core Snapdragon processor clocked at 1Ghz, 1GB of RAM, and a 5-megapixel camera. The design of the phone otherwise remains unchanged, featuring an attractive and colourful polycarbonate build.
So far the product page for the Lumia 525 suggests that the phone will initially be released throughout Africa, the Middle East, and the Asia Pacific region. There’s no word on if the device is coming to Europe, but given the low price and recent jump in Lumia sales, it would be silly not to.
The cost of the 525 isn’t entirely clear right now, but Engadget Chinese says that the phone will be sold on various Chinese carriers for around $180 (close to £110) – not much of a surprise given that the Lumia 520 costs roughly the same price. We’ll post details if and when Nokia decides to bring the phone to the UK.
