Nokia Lumia 710 shipping today: €270, still no UK ETA

Nokia has just announced that it’s second Windows Phone device, the lower-specced Lumia 710, is now shipping.

Coming with a 3.7-inch WVGA ClearBlack touchscreen, a 5-megapixel camera and a plastic build, it’s smaller than the flagship Lumia 800 and doesn’t have the same premium polyurethane feel either.

It’s noticably less high-grade looking than most of the other Windows Phone pack, come to think of it. This plus the attractive price of €270 hint at Nokia’s intentions to undercut the rest of the Mango gang.

Today’s announcement confirms that the Lumia 710 will be coming to Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, India and Russia – but not the UK. Yet.

The other day we spotted that the Lumia 710 had cropped up on Digital Phone as a pre-order, flagging January the 6th as a UK launch date. There’s still no word of a UK price for the Nokia Lumia 710.

€270 currently works out at around £230 in UK sterling – is this about right or still too much for the Lumia 710?

For your money you’d get a 5-megapixel camera (LED flash and 720p), 8GB of internal storage and Nokia’s signature Music and Drive apps. The screen resolution, processor and RAM (800 x 480, 1.4GHz, 512MB) are all the same as that what you get with the Lumia 800, so in terms of general usability, the two phones ought to be more or less the same.

On top of that you get Windows Phone 7.5 Mango and all the goodies that has to offer, Facebook group messaging, Bing Music search and now the super-sexy Xbox Companion app.
