Nokia Lumia event locked in for May 14th

The event announcements are coming thick and fast these days. The latest comes from Nokia, who will be holding an event in London on May 14th to showcase a new Lumia handset. The invite that the company sent out unfortunately doesn’t give us any hints as to what we might see, but there have been reports in the past that give us a rough idea of what to expect.

We recently saw an aluminium version of the Nokia Lumia 920, codenamed Catwalk, that was expected to be announced in May for a June release. The handset would feature the same specs as the Lumia 920, but the use of aluminium instead of polycarbonate plastic would lead to a lighter and thinner handset. WPCentral believes it will be 50 grams lighter and 2.3mm thinner.

Still, that handset was pegged for a release on T-Mobile in the United States. It may also come to the UK, but we doubt this would be the handset Nokia would want to showcase. The safer bet is on some kind of Windows Phone device with Nokia’s 41-megapixel PureView tech. The company has indicated in the past that it was working to bring the technology to Windows Phone, the only question was when it would see the light of day.

In any event, we’ll find out exactly what Nokia has in store on May 14th. We’ll be there to bring you all the news from the event, so remember to check back then.
