We’ve already heard about Nokia’s intentions to create aluminium bodied smartphones as of this year and talk of some of these handsets including the Nokia EOS and Catwalk are already floating around, but based on a Nokia-owned patent from 2011, we may well have a good idea of another new Windows Phone handset likely to take the stage at Mobile World Congress later this month.
Patents have been used to identify handsets ahead of release before and indeed the likes of the Lumia 920 or ‘Phi’ as it was then known was discovered in this way. This time around a patent from December 2011 was picked up by LiveSide.net which identified the handset illustraited in the patent as look much like a Nokia which featured in one of the company’s 2011 promo videos (at around 0:36) for their move to Windows Phone.
We suspect that alongside the likes of the more affordable Lumia 520 and 720 on track to feature at MWC, this new Nokia could serve as a means of bridging the gap between the company’s budget Asha range and their Windows Phone-based Lumia line. The design itself looks closer to the Asha 306 than any of the existing Lumia handsets, so if it does show face as a Windows Phone device, it’ll stick out in the product line.
If we’re lucky, we’ll accumulate more information ahead of Nokia’s press conference surrounding all of the aforementioned handsets.
