Yesterday we brought you news of a teaser on the Nokia Facebook page, which appeared to point towards a new device, sans ‘Nokia’ branding, being launched within a matter of hours. As predicted, the teaser was right on the money and this morning we got our first glimpse of the entry-level Microsoft Lumia 535.
The Windows Phone 8.1 device features a 5-inch qHD display (running at 960 x 540), 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB of on-board storage (which can be expanded via micro SD), and a 1905mAh battery which should be good for 13 hours of talk time on 3G.
Microsoft has also seen fit to imbue the Lumia 535 with 5-megapixel cameras front and rear. The front facer will offer wide-angle snaps courtesy of its 24mm focal length, allowing you to squeeze more of your friends in when snapping a group selfie.
“Lumia 535 comes with our “5x5x5” proposition,” said Jo Harlow, Corporate Vice President for Phones at Microsoft. “Innovation should be available to everyone, and we are doing this through the very best integrated Microsoft services free and out-of-the-box, a 5 MP wide-angle front-facing camera and a spacious 5 inch, qHD screen – all at an affordable price.”
The device will also give users access to Cortana, Microsoft’s own virtual assistant, 15GB of OneDrive cloud storage, Office, Skype and Outlook email, making it quite a tidy little proposition for those looking to get a full-featured device without breaking the bank.
The Lumia 535 will set you back €110 when it’s launched, later this month, which should equate to around £90-£100 when it washes up on the shores of Blighty sometime in early 2015.
