Nokia N8 confirmed

Nokia has just confirmed a number of details surrounding the forthcoming Nokia N8 smartphone and it looks like many of the rumoured features that we reported on yesterday, including Nokia’s new Symbian^3 touchscreen OS, are making an appearance in the final product.

The biggest fuss is being made over the N8’s camera – a 12-megapixel camera complete with Carl Zeiss optics and a xenon flash. The N8’s camera is capable of recording HD-quality footage which you can then view on an HD Ready TV set via the HDMI port.

The Nokia N8’s 3.5-inch touchscreen supports mutli-touch and pinch zooming. The now de rigueur social networking integration is present – you can view Facebook and Twitter feeds from a single app. Other features include free Ovi Maps for navigation on foot or in your car, and the ability watch TV on the web including content from CNN and ‘local Web TV content’ – which we hope means BBC iPlayer.

The Nokia N8 promises to be a capable mutlitasker but we’ll have to wait until we get our hands on one to see if it’s any good. It will cost around €370 SIM-free and we expect it will be free on monthly contracts. Nokia hasn’t announced specific launch dates yet but we think the N8 will be available in the summer.
