If you can’t beat them, join them. Today Nokia showed us its latest handset, the Nokia N8. Combining an aluminium casing with a glass (capacitive) screen and Symbian^3 operating system, the Nokia N8 is a beautiful phone – a modern phone.
Before we list the various features which impressed us, it’s worth noting that the N8 we saw wasn’t finished – Symbian^3 felt buggy. At times apps would crash and certain parts of the interface lacked finesse. Nokia assured us that these bugs would be ironed out before it was released.

The homepage offers you the ability to add or remove widgets. At present there isn’t a social widget, similar to MotoBlur, which ties all your social networks together but Nokia is working on it.
The Nokia N8 isn’t the thinnest phones out there but it doesn’t feel too chunky either.
Here’s where the battery lives. You’re not supposed to remove the battery yourself. Why Nokia? Why?
On the top there’s a 3.5mm headphone jack and mini HDMI port – you get an adapter in the box but no cable.
A 12-megapixel camera sits on the back of the N8 and produces fantastic shots from what we saw. We’ll make sure to test it out fully when we get a final model. Note that there’s a xenon flash – yay.

Symbian^3’s menu layout is very similar to previous Nokia menu layouts.
The N8 comes with Ovi Maps for 70 countries with voice for free. More of this please.
The N8’s Qwerty felt easy to use.
