Nokia must be exhausted. For the past few weeks it’s announced product after product and today it’s only gone and done it again. The Nokia N900 is described as a computer-grade device but unlike previous tablet-style offerings this isn’t a standalone Internet browsing device, it’s a full on phone.
On paper it’s one of Nokia’s most exciting devices yet, featuring a large 3.5-inch touchscreen, a full slide-out Qwerty keyboard, HSDPA (3.5G), Wi-Fi, GPS, a 5-megapixel camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a stand for resting it on a table and 32GB internal memory with the option to expand it using a microSD card.
The whole thing runs on Linux-based Maemo software and packs a 600 MHz processor with up to 1GB of application memory. According to Nokia switching between applications will be simple, as all running content is constantly available through the dashboard. The N900’s home screen can be personalised with favourite shortcuts, widgets and applications.
One of the features we’re most excited about is the Mozilla-based browser that supports flash videos, so you’ll be able to watch BBC’s iPlayer and YouTube.
