Nokia Reading comes to Lumia phones in the UK

Phones like the 808 PureView weren’t the only thing that Nokia showcased at Mobile World Congress earlier this year. In a bid to flesh out the services and help differentiate the user experience found on the company’s Lumia Windows Phone devices, the company demonstrated a number of new exclusive apps, including Nokia Transport and Nokia Reading, which is now beginning to land on Lumia’s across the globe.

The former has been available for some time now, giving users access to local public transport times and routes on-the-go.  Nokia Conversations reports Nokia Reading is set to roll out from today, with the service initially coming to Lumia 610, 710, 800 and 900 owners in Russia, Germany, Italy, France, Spain and the UK.

Nokia Reading’s storefront will enable users to browse a growing library of both free and paid books, over a range of genres. As well as the various categories, the app will feature extra lists such as ‘Top eBooks’ and ‘New Releases’. Of course there’s also search functionality if you know exactly what you’re looking for.

In a bid to ensure a smooth smartphone reading experience fonts will be rendered with Microsoft’s ClearType technology and will be fully scalable, as seen on eReaders such as the Amazon Kindle.

Nokia plans to expand on the functionality of Nokia Reading, by eventually implementing new features like audiobook support and access to news streams. To download the app just head to the Nokia Collection section in Marketplace from your Lumia phone, although it wasn’t available when we checked. Keep checking as the roll out means the app may take some time to reach your device.
