The Lumia 1020 and Lumia 1520 will soon be able to shoot RAW images

Nokia is taking smartphone cameras very seriously. So seriously, in fact, that it’s adding the ability to shoot RAW images to specific Lumia handsets with PureView optics in an upcoming update.

Both the Lumia 1020 and newly announced Lumia 1520 will be able to take full-resolution pictures without any form of compression, giving pro photographers additional wiggle room if they want to correct any problems after the fact.

Better yet, Nokia will be adding Lytro-esque capabilities in another update. That means that you’ll be able to refocus on any part of a picture even after it’s been taken – a pretty killer feature. Nokia says that the 5-megapixel images can be shared out to Facebook, or embedded on ordinary websites with a little bit of code. The Lumia 1520 will be the first handset to take advantage of the new feature, but it will be added to the Lumia 920 and Lumia 925 down the road. You can play around with the feature on Nokia’s website in the meantime.
