You wait for a bus for ages and then three Nokia phones turn up at once, or something like that. Less than a week after details of the N97 Mini and 5530 XpressMusic leaked, the Nokia RX-51 has reared its large, shiny head. Judging by the images posted over on Indonesian forum Kaskus, this bad boy comes with a large touchscreen and a slide-out Qwerty keypad. Shots of the back reveal that the RX-51 also has a 5-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and a Carl Zeiss lens – the same imaging setup that’s present on the Nokia N97.
We’re assuming the RX-51 is the N900 Rover that was leaked back in May this year. The N900 is the supposed successor to Nokia’s N800 and N810 internet tablet devices – two neat touchscreen tablets that provided mobile web surfing, but couldn’t hold SIM cards. The RX-51/N900 does come with a SIM card slot though, making it the first one of its kind to do so – this alone could see Nokia tablet PC series finally making an impact in the mainstream.
The RX-51 runs on the latest version of Mameo, a Linux-based operating system, rather than Nokia’s Symbian OS. Given that it comes with a 3.5-inch display, a Qwerty keypad and a 5-megapixel camera, it’s likely that Nokia will be marketing this as an N97 for a more tech-savvy crowd. It’s more of a mobile computer than a smartphone. We expect the RX-51, among other things, to be announced at this year’s Nokia World in September, which we’ll be attending so we’ll keep you updated.
