O2 offers pay monthly and business customers early iPhone 4 upgrade for a fee

If you really can’t wait for your current O2 contract to run out before you buy an iPhone 4 then you’re in luck, sort of. O2 is offering pay monthly and business customers the opportunity to terminate their contracts by paying £20 for each full month left on them.

So if you’ve got 5 months left on your contract, for example, then you’d have to pay £100 to get out of it. Once you’ve terminated your old contract you then have to sign up to a new 18 or 24 month O2 contract and pay for the iPhone 4 16GB and 32GB models at the normal prices.

According to O2, once you’ve signed up for this offer you can’t change your mind and you won’t be able to go back to your old tariff. It’s a shame that O2 isn’t offering an iPhone 4 upgrade without a fee but if your contract only has a couple of months left on it then it’s not too bad.

O2 has provided a tool to figure out exactly how much you have to pay to get out of you contract. We recommend reading the full terms of this offer.

Update: O2 lets you trade in your old phone for money, which should help with the iPhone 4 early upgrade costs. An iPhone 3G 8GB can go for as much as £143. Visit the O2 recycling site for more info.
