Last April, HP took over Palm, meaning that this the first time HP could show off what they intend to do with the Palm legacy.
Tonight, they held a big announcement bash in San Francisco, where journalists were ushered into the hall to the sound of LCD Soundsystem’s “I can change”. (Do you get it?)
Following their recent eight-second YouTube trailer, HP/Palm revealed their three new devices, following their teaser site asking you to think “big”, “small”, “ahead” and “beyond”
The first was the HP Veer. (Note the dropping of the Palm name across all the new devices.)
The tiny HP Veer promises to “fit in your pocket with room to spare.” Looks to be the size of a credit card, but amazingly, there’s space for a slide-out keyboard and 8GB of storage.
Chuck in an 800Hz processor and the full webOS inside it- it’s like a baby Palm Pre, and set to be available in the US from early spring.
The ‘ahead’ device looks to be the Palm Pre 3; the latest addition to the Palm Pre family.
The Palm Pre 2 had a lukewarm reception in the UK, with none of the major phone networks adopting the phone, and you could only buy it SIM-free.
The Pre 3 has a 3.6-inch WVGA display, running a resolution of 480×800. It’ll have only the single processor in it, but that’ll be running at 1.4Ghz- a respectable speed at this point.
Although, with a release date of this summer, and all these dual-cores floating around right now, there’s a chance it could be behind from the start. Storage-wise, you’ll have the choice between 8GB and 16GB.
Then there was one last announcement- the big one- the rumoured HP tablet, the TouchPad.
