OnLive UK streaming gaming service to launch September 22nd

OnLive, the streaming game service that lets gamers play top-end games without the need for a console or high-spec gaming PC, will launch in the UK on September 22nd at the start of the 2011 Eurogamer Expo London.

Once up and running, the service will offer gamers the opportunity to rent, buy or trial over a hundred games at launch on their PCs, Macs, iPads, Android tablets and HDTVs. All that’s needed (bar the OnLive controllers, a suitable screen and the OnLive MicroConsole for HDTVs) is a broadband connection.

OnLive launched last year in the US to favourable reviews in the gaming press. The UK is the first country after the States to get in on the service, with CEO and founder Steve Perlman promising that “OnLive will utterly transform gaming in the UK. No discs, big downloads or specialised hardware needed. OnLive gives you the latest games instantly, anytime, anywhere.”

UK gamers wanting in at the bottom can sign up now at OnLive.co.co.uk to reserve their player tag and receive e-mail updates as the launch date approaches.
