Do you want a swivel camera on your next Android phone? Oppo has just the thing.
It’s called the N1, and it’s ugly. That’s just no way around it – that camera looks ridiculous. Sure, you can use it for 13-megapixel selfies, and the hinge is probably great for creepers trying to get panty shots, but it sticks out like a sore thumb. Do you want this in your life? I really don’t think you do.
Other specs include a 5.9-inch 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core SoC clocked at 1.7Ghz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, and a large 3,610mAh battery. Oppo is also bundlings its own software customisations on top of Android, dubbed ColourOS.
But the big news is the promise of stock Android support. Oppo is the first handset manufacturer to collaborate directly with the newly formed CyanogenMod Inc, a company comprised of many developers who’ve previously worked on the popular ROM. The N1 won’t come installed with CM – there’ll be a seperate “CyanogenMod Edition” for that – but Oppo says that an officially sanctioned ROM will be released later that can be flashed to the device without any issues.
Oppo says that the N1 will begin shipping in October for around $570. There’s no word yet on UK availability, but the company did sell its last device – the Find 5 – on its European webstore.
