Orange iPhone 3G and 3GS coming to the UK soon

In a move that is sure to make O2 wail and scream like a neglected stepchild, Orange UK and Apple have reached an agreement to bring the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS to Orange UK customers later this year. Orange already offer the all conquering iPhone in 28 different countries and territories around the globe but snagging the rights to bring the iPhone to UK customers is a massive scoop for the network giant.

Orange has the distinct advantage of being able to offer Apple a 3G infrastructure which covers more people in the UK than any other network. This means that Orange customers will be able to download apps at a decent speed from pretty much anywhere. Orange will sell the Apple iPhone in all of its direct retail channels which means you can either buy online or head down to your nearest Orange shop, should you want to pester some poor part timer with ludicrous technical questions. A pre-registration site for customers to log their interest has already been set up and is available at www.orange.co.uk/iPhone.

There is no information on tariffs, pricing or release dates just yet so we will have to see if Orange decides to undercut O2 and instigate a bidding war for your hard earned money. But this move can only be good news for UK consumers who have been reluctant to sign up to O2 to get an iPhone. Plus if this deal brings the cost of purchasing an iPhone down then it can only be good news for everyone.
