Orange launches My Star social iPhone game with a music twist

Social iPhone games were all the rage in 2010, as you’ll know if you were addicted to FarmVille, Lil’ Pirates, Zombie Farm or – whisper it – Smurfs’ Village. Now 2011’s first contender has gone live on the App Store, published by… Orange?

It’s called My Star, and it’s the result of a partnership between Orange and developer Mobile Pie. Here’s the plot: “Pilot your star from absolute zero to musical hero whilst perfecting their look and pad, learning instruments and hanging out with your friends.”

Music + mobile + social? Count us in. Presently, the game involves kitting out your mini rock star’s flat with furniture and posters, while changing their appearance and mastering various instruments.

However, the App Store blurb promises more features to come in the next few weeks, including Facebook and Game Center support to hook up with friends, a virtual studio to record songs to get rewards, more mini-games, and even the chance to receive voice calls and text messages from your star.

Early days, but this is one to watch.
