Panasonic to showcase two phones at MWC: Eluga and Lumix phone?

Panasonic haven’t released a phone in the UK in a long time, and never a smartphone, at least not by today’s standards. All that however is about to change with MWC heralding two smartphone releases, the Panasonic Eluga and a mystery device which will supposedly be their premium offering.

The Panasonic Eluga, captured by Pocket-lint at the Panasonic Convention 2012 in Hamburg will be a 4.3-inch qHD device with an OLED display. Running Android and combining light weighting and a thin chassis, everything comes together as reminiscent of the Fujitsu Arrow F-07D which we had some hands-on time with at CES 2012.

Inside the Panasonic Eluga is a dual-core OMAP 4430 processor and while it’s powering Android 2.3, Ice Cream Sandwich can be expected in the summer. Flipping the handset over reveals an 8-megapixel camera, with other media highlights including integration with Panasonic’s Vierra TVs.

Does all this sound positively mouth-watering? If so, brace yourself for MWC as the Eluga doesn’t actually appear to be Panasonic’s premium handset. Pocket-lint also got the scoop that Panasonic will be announcing a bigger screened device which won’t be OLED, but a new Panasonic technology. There will be a dual-core processor inside and perhaps most exciting, it will utilise Lumix technology, adding some of Panasonic’s camera know-how into their mobile mix.

Will we finally get a cameraphone in the UK with an optical zoom? Will the mystery device be a Panasonic Vierra TV in our pocket? Will it feature a 5-inch plus display like the LG Vu and Samsung Galaxy note? All will be revealed at MWC.
