PlayStation Phone prototype pictured: Heading to market “soon”

The Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone has just emerged Bambi-like from the prototype-womb, looking a little scrappy, a bit wobbly and peering nervously into the blinding glare of the fanboy verdict.

As previously reported, the handset will come running Android 3.0 (Gingerbread), the gamerphone will be powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm processor. It has a custom Sony Marketplace filled with games designed specially for the handset as well as a multi-touch touchpad between the traditional PSP-esque button layouts.

The screen is around 3.7-4.1in and it doesn’t look like the prototype has a custom skin over the OS yet, but that’s an addition we wouldn’t be surprised to see in the final version.

It’s not far off the mock-up Engadget threw together back in August but quite clearly still in prototype form. Supposedly there’s a chance that it’ll hit the shelves before the year is out, but we won’t be holding our breath. [Engadget]
