RED movie gets a comic-app prequel on iPhone and iPad

Heard of RED? It’s a new movie starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren, and it’s out this month. It’s MI6-meets-KGB spy malarkey, although no news on the level of vest-related smirking and carefully-lit ‘isn’t she good for her age?’ sex scenes.

Anyway, there’s also a series of iPhone apps coming out to promote the film, starting with RED Movie Prequel: Victoria. As its name implies, it gives some backstory for Victoria, the character played by Mirren.

The film is actually based on a three-part graphic novel, which is the form taken by the app. It uses mobile firm ComiXology’s Comic Book Reader technology to offer an interactive comic introducing Victoria, complete with all the swiping and zooming you’d expect if you’ve used existing comics apps for companies like Marvel and DC.

It costs £1.79, and is the first of four, meaning (presumably) that you’ll pay just over seven quid for the lot.
