Samsung teams with Amazon over new bespoke Kindle store

Samsung has teamed up with Amazon to create a new eBook app called Kindle for Samsung.

Samsung has announced Kindle for Samsung, created in partnership with Amazon the app will let samsung Galaxy users browse, buy and read content from Amazon’s vast selection of eBooks, newspapers and magazines. Supported devices need to be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or newer and the Samsung Galaxy S5 wil be the first in line to take advantage of the new service.

Samsung and Amazon will also be launching a free book service called Samsung Book Deals. This will offer up 12 free books a year, to those who are recommended, download and install the app. It’s unclear whether the books are predefined or up to the user to choose.

Jorrit Van der Meulen, Vice President of EU Kindle, said: “We’re thrilled that Samsung has chosen Kindle as their eBook provider. With Kindle for Samsung, people around the world will have instant access to the best digital bookstore and reading experience, including more than half a million titles that are only available from the Kindle Store, and innovative features like Whispersync, Time to Read and much more.”

Samsung’s latest business model has involved a number of partnerships, with services like Milk Music in the US offering an exclusive music streaming service to Samsung Galaxy users. Tablets also tend to be the device of choice for reading, so the Galaxy Note and Galaxy Pro device families now have an extra string to their bows when compared to the majority of the competition, with the exception of Amazon’s own Kindle and Kindle Fire tablets, of course.

Kindle for Samsung can be downloaded from the Samsung Apps store, and is now available in over 90 countries.
