CNET reports that Samsung has been ordered to pay Apple an additional $290 million in its drawn out patent infringement case. That’s slightly less than the $380 that Apple believed it was entitled too, but still significantly more than Samsung’s prediction of $52 million.
The ruling from the original Apple vs. Samsung trial deemed that the South Korean company did indeed infringe on Apple’s patents and designs, with a jury determining that Samsung should pay $1 billion in damages. Judge Lucy Koh found later, however, that the damages were miscalculated, subsequently dropping $400 million from the payout and ordering a retrial. That retrial was initiated last week, with the jury arriving at its verdict late yesterday.
All in all, Samsung must pay Apple $930 million in damages. Naturally, Samsung is disappointed with the result, saying that it “will continue to innovate with groundbreaking technologies and great products that are loved by our many customers all around the world.”
