Samsung Galaxy i7500: Finally out on O2

You can start breathing again. O2 has finally announced that the Galaxy i7500 is available to buy. The Samsung Galaxy has some pretty nifty little surprises tucked away in its slimline frame: Google’s Android operating system, a 3.2″ AMOLED touchscreen display, a 5-megapixel camera and 8GB of internal memory, among other things.

Using the Galaxy’s GPS you can take full advantage of location based services such as Google Maps and augmented reality apps such as Layar. Similar to the iTunes app store, the Android Marketplace offers a range of apps but we’re still waiting for the overall quality of Android apps to get better — hopefully Samsung’s entry will help towards that.

It’s a classic chicken and egg situation as apps won’t get better until more people download them from the Marketplace and people won’t buy Android phones until the apps get better. Samsung has the manufacturing brunt to flood the market with Android phones and get the platform into more people’s hands, hopefully stimulating more app development.

The Samsung Galaxy is exclusively available on O2 for four weeks. Expect a full review soon.
