Mid-range Samsung Galaxy J5 specs and images leak, shows big camera and battery

Some new images showing Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy J5 mid-ranger have leaked online.

Samsung’s as-yet unlaunched Galaxy J5 hasn’t been the shyest device in the world during its development. We’ve seen leaked hardware details and strong hints from various sources regarding what we should expect from the device, and now we have some snapshots and some firm specs too, courtesy of China’s TENAA, who provide certification for new telecoms equipment.

Specs-wise we’re told that the device is set to be a mid-range smartphone with a 5-inch 720p HD display, driven by a quad-core Snapdragon 410 clocked to 1.2GHz. You can expect to find 1.5GB RAM and 8GB of storage space in the device, though a microSD slot will be present too, so you needn’t worry about space.

The J5 is also expected to feature a 13-megapixel primary camera, 5-megapixel secondary, and the whole package is to be powered by a 2,600mAh battery – one which is removable, no less. We can also see, thanks to the pictures, that the device will run on Android 5.1 out of the box.

In terms of aesthetics, the J5 looks like plenty of other Samsung devices we’ve seen before, which is not to say it’s boring or ugly, but it is pretty plain – think of it as a plastic-bodied alternative to the metal-framed A series.

Of course, with reasonable specs and a simple design the device’s hopes of success will be pinned largely on its price-tag, so provided Samsung doesn’t go crazy it could have a neat, popular little smartphone on its hands.

Given the fact that the device is going through its certification in China, it should be on the market relatively soon but, as you’d expect, we have no firm details on when you can expect to be able to get your hands on one of these – but we’ll strive to keep you up to date.
