Leaked product names indicate the next Nexus smartphone could be called the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 2 or Samsung Galaxy Nexus Plus?
Android Authority has collated the wealth of existing information regarding this mysterious device and although there’s no official imagery we already appear to know a lot about it.

What will the next Nexus device be called?
This is still a big point of contention and as with the entirety of this piece, any specifications or names are never concrete. The codename GT-i9260 is what sparked talk of a new Nexus smartphone. Google have already put their efforts behind one Nexus device this year with the arrival of the Google Nexus 7 tablet by Asus, however we haven’t seen a stock Android smartphone from Google since the original Samsung Galaxy Nexus which was announced late last year.
The first Galaxy Nexus went by the identifier of GT-i9250 which as logic dictates, makes the GT-i9260 the obvious successor. Samsung who made the last device use this naming convention throughout their product portfolio, with their successful Galaxy S range using i9000, i9100 and i9300 for the original S, S2 and S3 respectively.
A trip onto Carphone Warehouse’s website offers the most concrete existence of this handset. By heading to the trade-in section of the site and inputting ‘Samsung Galaxy Nexus’ (as pictured above) the text box automatically offers a selection of either the existing Samsung Galaxy Nexus or the ‘Samsung Galaxy Plus’. This isn’t the only name other, with other sites and sources having made reference to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 2, the Galaxy Premier and the Galaxy Nexus Premier. However as the source points out the Premier name seems less likely.
What specs does the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 2/ Plus offer?
There’s little in the way of concrete evidence yet, however an image was uploaded to Picasa, complete with basic EXIF data, supposedly taken on the new Nexus phone. As always, the innocuous image doesn’t give a lot away regarding the camera’s prowess, but anticipated hardware is as follows:
Screen: 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD display
Processor: 1.5GHz Cortex-A9 dual-core chip
Camera: 8-megapixel camera with f/2.65 aperture and 4mm focal length
Storage: 16GB storage with microSD support
Indeed the notion of this handset materialising as the Nexus Plus rather than the Nexus 2 makes more sense as it seems to stand as a refresh rather than a completely new device, sporting next-gen hardware.
What operating system will it run?
The next Nexus will undoubtedly launch running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and as it will come with support direct from Google, should see at least two significant OS updates in its lifetime.
When will it be available?
The Nexus 2/Plus’s appearance on the trade-in section of the Carphone Warehouse website is a unique case, even searching for it elsewhere on the site yields nothing. Having said that its existence and appearances elsewhere on the internet do suggest that its a real handset although its significance in the Nexus family is less certain. The increased frequency of its appearance mean that it’ll hopefully appear before the end of 2012, if not by the first quarter of 2013.
