Samsung Galaxy Note 2 now available in the UK

The successor to the first truly successful device to bridge the gap between phone and tablet is finally here and as of today is now available to pick up in store or online from a number of mobile retailers.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has thus far cropped up on the likes of the Tesco Mobile, Phones 4U and Three websites but remains oddly absent from the other UK carriers online stores.

Those in London eager enough to get their hands on the new Note were in fact able to swing by the Samsung Brand store at Westfield shopping centre in Stratford from yesterday, where they could purchase one inclusive of a special discount and for those who wanted to try their luck, the store was also running competitions to win free Note 2s as well.

We’ll be back to update this piece once we know more from the other carriers but in the meantime, some of the most competitive tariffs can be found down below. Depending on where you pick it up, the Note 2 should be available in Marble White and Titanium Grey, colours already seen on the Samsung Galaxy S3.

What operating system does the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 run?

Although speculation swung towards Android Ice Cream Sandwich at launch with an upgrade to Jelly Bean down the line, Samsung has bestowed Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upon the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 from the get-go. In light of this, the UI feels ‘buttery’ smooth and we didn’t encounter lag once, not even when opening applications.

What are the alternatives?

In order to receive the same quality stylus-based smartphone experience it makes sense to look at the original Samsung Galaxy Note, which arrived this time last year at IFA 2011. Conversely those who want another powerful Samsung smartphone could just as easily consider the Samsung Galaxy S3. Outside Samsung’s product lineup, the LG Optimus Vu with its 5-inch screen is a big-screen rival or the 4.7-inch HTC One X.
