The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will feature a truly “unbreakable” display, according to the latest reports from Korea. The forthcoming phablet looks like it’ll be taking on the likes of Corning’s Gorilla Glass and the rumoured sapphire screen in the works for the Motorola X Phone when it launches later this year. The stylus savvy flagship product may use new production methods and specialised screen technologies to create a super tough screen which won’t break under the stresses and strains of daily life.
Now those quotation marks are important because if existing smartphones and tablets have taught us anything, it’s that displays break, frequently, and thus far no matter how resilient their manufacturers may claim they’re designed to be, a nasty fall onto concrete seems to prove them all wrong nine times out of ten.
With the Note 3, some form of super strengthened glass will presumably be used, although it’d be more exciting if Samsung decided to instil the phablet with some Youm flexible display goodness, however of that we’re sceptical. The unbreakable claim originally popped up on Korean site asiae.co.kr, but we were pointed in its direction via Redmond Pie who also suggest specs likely to grace the forthcoming hybrid handset.
Following in the footsteps of the recently announced Samsung Galaxy S4, the Note 3 will likely arrive (at least in some markets) with the same Exynos 5 Octa-core processor; although just as with the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2, it’ll likely be clocked higher than the 1.6GHz quoted for the new smartphone. In addition we’ll no doubt see 2GB of RAM, a Full HD 5.9-inch OLED display and a larger capacity battery. There’s some grey area as to which version of Android it’ll run with suggestions being Android 4.2, though anticipated for IFA in the latter half of the year, it could well run Android 5.0, Key Lime Pie.
