Samsung Galaxy Note 7 in a nutshell: Specs, best features and more

Samsung has just launched the Galaxy Note 7, an all-new Note phone for 2016, packing some very cool new features and updated specs. Here’s everything you need to know about the Galaxy Note 7, including a specs list, features review and UK price and release date info.

What is the Samsung Galaxy Note 7?

Samsung was one of the very first mobile manufacturers to release a ‘phablet’ device back in 2011, which is just another word for a bloody massive phone. The original Galaxy Note was a then-massive, eyebrow-raising 5.3-inches (now of course a fairly standard size for a smartphone) which impressed us with its excellent S Pen stylus, making it perfect for creative and business users.

Five years on, Samsung has just launched the Galaxy Note 7. Of course, UK users might be a little confused by this launch, as the Galaxy Note 5 was mysteriously never released over here, while the Galaxy Note 6 doesn’t actually exist. We’re therefore skipping straight from the excellent Galaxy Note 4 to the Galaxy Note 7.

What happened to the Samsung Galaxy Note 6?

Samsung is skipping the Galaxy Note 6 and launching it as the Galaxy Note 7 instead. This is most likely to keep the names of its flagship smartphones neatly aligned; earlier this year we had the launch of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, and now they’ll be joined by the Galaxy Note 7.

If Samsung’s latest phablet was released as the Galaxy Note 6, it may seem inferior to the S7 and S7 Edge in some people’s minds, due to the lesser number. So while the Note chronology is now slightly confused, hopefully consumers won’t be put off.

What are the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 specs?

What are the best new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 features?

The Galaxy Note 7 is the first consumer phone to boast an iris scanner, an alternative security measure to the typical fingerprint sensor found on most new Android phones. This will scan your eyes when you try to unlock your handset, to verify your identity and keep out pesky thieves. Check out our Galaxy Note 7 iris scanner review.

Like the Galaxy S7 before it, the Galaxy Note 7 is also be fully water-resistant, as is the all-new S Pen stylus. Great news if you like doodling in the bath.
