Samsung Galaxy Note 7 vs Note 7 Lite: What’s the difference?

Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 7 will be launched in August 2016, but it also looks like there will be a second variant of the Note 7 known as the Note 7 Lite (if rumours are correct). So what are the Galaxy Note 7 specs and what’s the rumoured difference between the Note 7 and Note 7 Lite?

Although neither model of Galaxy Note 7 is official yet, a fair few details have already leaked online. Here’s what we know about the Note 7 and the possible Note 7 Lite spin-off, including specs, rumoured differences and the UK launch date.

What are the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 specs?

The Galaxy Note 7 will continue Samsung’s trend of packing the very latest phone tech and features into its Note phablet range, giving a supremely powerful handset that’s perfect for demanding creative and business users.

Web rumours point to a 5.8-inch Galaxy Note 7 boasting the latest Snapdragon 821 processor, backed by a mighty 6GB of RAM. That should make for some seriously impressive performance, beating most other 2016 mobiles. We’re also hoping for at least the same brilliant cameras found in the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

What are the Note 7 Lite specs and what’s the difference compared with the Note 7?

If the Note 7 Lite rumours are real, then Samsung hasn’t trimmed the specs too much.

The Note 7’s Snapdragon 821 processor will be dropped to a slightly older Snapdragon 820 chipset for the Note 7 Lite, backed by 4GB of RAM instead of 6GB. This means the Note 7 Lite will be less powerful than the original Note 7, but not by a huge amount; the Snapdragon 821 is reportedly only ten percent faster in benchmarking tests.

You can also expect the same 5.8-inch sized screen as the Note 7, but the Note 7 Lite’s resolution will possibly be dropped from Quad HD (2560×1440) to Full HD (1920×1080). That means images won’t be quite as crisp on the Note 7 Lite.

When will the Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy Note 7 Lite launch in the UK?

It looks like Samsung will launch the Galaxy Note 7 and Note 7 Lite in New York on August 2 2016. We’re expecting both new Note 7 phones to come to the UK, with an August or September 2016 launch date most likely. You can also expect to pay a hefty price for both phones; we’re banking on the Note 7 Lite costing at least £499 and the Note 7 Lite most likely starting from £599.
