Samsung Galaxy Note Android 4.0 ICS update underway

Galaxy Note ICS updateWe’ve been well aware that the Samsung Galaxy Note would be getting a healthy dose of Android Ice Cream Sandwich at some point, but the questions has always been, when? Well initial reports of Samsung Galaxy Notes getting the update have appeared on Twitter.

It was Samsung Italy who confirmed back in late 2011 that both the Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note would be running the latest iteration of Android before summer 2012. That being said, it took a long time for Samsung Galaxy S2 users to actually enjoy the benefits as the update only really completed its roll out a week or so before the Galaxy S3 entered onto scene only last week.

XDA Developers set about fast-tracking the process by offering up a near enough stock Android experience, available in the form of an ICS ROM for the Galaxy Note which appeared way back in January, we even took it for a test run to see how it handled with all that extra screen real estate at its disposal.

In a way, it’s a little disappointing that only now are users able to taste some official ICS goodness, but Samsung aren’t to be rushed. The new ICS Note update should offer up a similar set of tweaks and improvements as seen on the S2 ICS update, but with a few extra features thrown in, such as the S Pen-friendly My Story app as well as the Video Everywhere function, which we saw demoed on stage at the S3 launch.

Let us know if your Note has Android 4.0 waiting in the wings and if you can, tell us your carrier and if your device is unlocked.
