Samsung Galaxy S Android update incoming

Users of the Samsung Galaxy S may soon be able to update their smartphone to Android 2.3.4, bringing enhancements including video chat.

SamFirmware has located an image showing the ROM build of the Samsung Galaxy S (I900), it’s dated June 3rd and indicates Samsung is working on an update to Android 2.3.4 for the handset.

According to information on the Official Google Mobile Blog the Android 2.3.4 update adds support for Google Voice and Video Chat, along with a new version of Google Talk and video calling over 3G. In addition the update should also bring some performance improvements and fixes.

Samsung initially released the Android 2.3.3 update for the Galaxy S in May through it’s KIES software, although the Android 2.3.4 update has been available to the Google Nexus S since May.

There’s no news on precisely when the update will be available, although Samsung Europe has confirmed the roll out will start in Europe in Q3, although of course when you will actually receive the update depends on your network, so check with them for full details.

SamFirmware is also reporting the Galaxy Ace will get an update to Gingerbread over Kies, initially for Russian and Polish users.
