Word has reached these parts of the European launch of the Samsung Galaxy S – Samsung’s high-end super-powered Android smartphone, complete with Super AMOLED screen and firey-fast 1GHz processing power. With all this, and the press release heralding it as the handset that “will change the way people think about smartphones”, we’ll be expecting big things from the Galaxy S.
There was talk of an epic 110-country simultaneous launch for the galactic handset but it seems those plans are on ice, as it has been announced today for Europe, while other countries will have to wait. It has a sultry-looking iPhone-esque design, with that bright and crisp screen really making it a stunner.
That 4-inch Super AMOLED screen is a capacitive touchscreen, purported to be super-responsive. The Samsung Galaxy S also features Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0 user interface, which features handy tools like Swype text input, Layar for augmented reality and integrated location based services. We’re pretty sure there’ll be some kind of social networking features shoe-horned in there too.
With HD video playback, a 5-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 3.0, HSDPA (super-3G) and Wi-Fi connectivity, we should be seeing the Galaxy S hit the shelves in the next few weeks, with Samsung bragging that interest from retailers has been intense – Vodafone has already nabbed it to run alongside the Samsung Wave, but we expect to see more carriers pick it up too.
