The Samsung Galaxy S3 didn’t arrive with the suspected Samsung S-Cloud service that many had speculated on, having said that, the current Samsung flagship did arrive on stage with word of its availability in three storage capacity options, 16, 32 and 64GB. With the largest capacity obviously fetching the highest asking price, it was only natural to suspect that it wouldn’t receive as wide appeal as it’s small brothers, but the demand looks to be so low that it might not stay on sale at all.
Reports which were picked up by GSMArena suggest that the 64GB S3 is being pulled from pre-order status due to underwhelming numbers, the challenge being as to establish whether it’s the reseller or Samsung themselves who’ve made this decision. The reports concerned those who pre-ordered on UK online retailer Expansys’ site. Those trying to process their purchase of the 64GB model were greeted with a message stating that Samsung, “has decided not to release the unit” in question.
The 64GB model is impressive not by its internal storage capacity alone, but that as with its 16 and 32GB counterparts, it also allows for expandable memory via microSD up to a further 32GB, giving the user a potential 96GB of onboard user storage to play with. As tantalising as this is for those who like to take all their content with them, all the time, the price tag for that extra inbuilt storage may have proved a little too rich for most consumers.
There’s is of course the possibility that this is an isolated case, when we reached out to Samsung to comment on the matter, they had this to say, “The 64GB model of the GALAXY S III will be available during the second half of this year. The market availability and timing may vary and will be determined at the time of release. ”
Expansys stated they are waiting to hear from Samsung. The S3 looks to remain on offer for the majority of 2012 in all of the capacity versions mentioned at launch, so don’t worry, don’t panic, everything’s as it should be.
