Jelly Bean 4.1.1 is the Android iteration on everyone’s lips right now and within the modding community, its custom-built counterpart, CyanogenMod 10 is already in the works. Whilst CM9; the Ice Cream Sandwich version of mod is now making its way slowly into release candidate 2 (RC2), only a number of Sony Xperias have been promised the CM10 treatment. However now it looks like we can add the Samsung Galaxy S3 to this exclusive group.
The preview release of CM10 which is now available for the Samsung Galaxy S3 isn’t anywhere near stable in comparison to finished CyanogenMod iterations, but it’s already alive and kicking on S3 handsets. The Samsung Galaxy S3 natively runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich out-of-the-box, with Sammy’s own Nature UX user interface running over the top. CM10 does take away from any of the unique users experiences the stock S3 offers, but in its place you do get the key goodness of Jelly Bean on an alternative quad-core device.
According to PocketNow, the likes of ‘Project Butter’ and Google Now are present and correct in the current S3 CM10 build, offering users super-smooth UI navigation and web browsing as well as routine dependant search functionality.
Interested? Users need to create a backup of their current ROM before heading over to XDA Developers to get ahold of some early Jelly Bean goodness. The current ROMs available work on international Galaxys S3s as well as AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint handsets in the US, with the Verizon ROM apparently still in the works.
