Samsung Galaxy S5 massively outsells the Galaxy S4

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 flagship smartphone doubles the sales of last year’s Galaxy S4 on the first day, showing Samsung is still very much stiff competition for the likes of Apple’s iPhone and Sony’s Xperia Z2.

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 finally hit stores last week (check out our round-up of the very best Galaxy S5 deals) and Samsung must have been a little anxious over sales given its disappointment with the Galaxy S4’s figures. Turns out the Korean giant needn’t have worried, as Galaxy S5 first-day sales doubled those of the Galaxy S4 in some retailers.

Samsung Galaxy S5 sales double that of Samsung Galaxy S4

Both Phones 4u and Carphone Warehouse reported outstanding sales, with Phones 4u announcing twice as many Galaxy S5s flying off shelves compared with last year’s Galaxy S4. Carphone Warehouse sales were 150% up.

Phones 4u also revealed that five times as many interested punters registered their details, to receive an alert when the Samsung Galaxy S5 became available to pre-order.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 faces stiff competition in the form of the Sony Xperia Z2 and the HTC One M8, two other superb flagship mobile phones, but initial figures certainly look promising. It’ll be interesting to see who the sales champion is come summer, when the dust has settled.
