Samsung has announced a more powerful Quad HD version of its popular Galaxy S5 smartphone, known as the Galaxy S5 LTE-A – but don’t expect to see it in the UK any time soon.
Samsung’s first Galaxy smartphone to boast a super-crisp 2560×1440 display has been announced over in South Korea, and it’s basically an updated version of the Galaxy S5, previously leaked as the Galaxy S5 Prime. With a frankly drool-worthy pixel density of 557ppi, the Galaxy S5 LTE-A’s screen is even sharper than LG’s flagship G3 smartphone, which has a still-pretty-damn-worthy pixel density of 538ppi.
The device is also one of the first mobile phones to pack Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 805 chipset, backed up with 3GB of RAM.
Samsung’s decision to use the Snapdragon chipset over an in-house Exynos processor will come as a surprise to some, and appears to be a result of the Snapdragon 805 supporting super-fast LTE Advanced networking, which can deliver data at speeds of up to 225Mb/s.
The Snapdragon 805 chip also supports 4K video playback, much like the LG G3 which boasts a Quad HD/WQHD panel. So far there’s no word on whether this variant of the Galaxy S5 will be heading to Western markets. Still, even if this is only a Korea-only product, it’s likely that future Samsung devices will be packing some of the components found in the Galaxy S5 LTE-A – the Note 4 is hotly tipped to rock the same sharp screen.
